Education is a genesis in the child’s progress. The investment made in knowledge acquisition by a child is perhaps the best for a secured future, as it pays back with interest. As the wisdom prevails, education is a passport for tomorrow and all the stake-holders viz. parents, teachers, students prepare for it today.
For the very reason, Hanumantharao Kankanampati, a teacher and administrator, who has won several awards from the state government and several organizations and who is known for his lateral thinking, sponsored by Ramakotiah Educational Society, forayed into education by founding Oakland School of Excellence. In his 22 years of teaching several thousands of students and training teachers from pre-primary to high school education, he experienced that the true progress of a child could only be achieved by a focused nurturing since childhood.
Oakland school views education as it should not only limit itself to imparting bookish knowledge but teach altruistic values viz. empathy, courage, honesty, wisdom, and reliability to a student from the level of primary education. Our education system is purely based on principles of morality and we rear a class of fresh minds poised with self-confidence and ready to take up challenges. We believe in holistic education for your child, encompassing blended and activity-based learning of academics, co-curricular activities, activity labs, and a unique English lab focusing on soft-skills, library to inculcate a habit of reading from the early years of learning, sports education and life-skills learning.
Oakland teachers are trained and experienced, and also known for their mentoring skills. They are poised to deliver not only a value-based education but in ensuring students excel in academics. The academic and sports infrastructure complemented by the serene environment in the campus bear testimony of the endeavour. Though the school adopts the state syllabus, nevertheless we also impart an integrated curriculum enabling the students to appear for Olympiads and NTSE, besides a foundation course in IIT JEE and NEET from the class 6 onwards.
The prospectus aims to provide transparent information of the school to parents, prospective pupils and the citizens. A school having classes from pre-primary to high school is fortunate that they can create a legacy to leave behind. Our pre-primary and primary education teachers groom the students by imbibing them on moral values, spirit of competition, humaneeducation, toning mark self-confidence.
Our teachers are trained in teaching from pre-primary to high school. Particularly, the pre-primary and primary education teachers are trained in Montessori Method. The teachers of classes 6th to 10th are all qualified and trained to teach and prepare the students for various school level subject oriented competitive examinations viz. Olympiads and NTSE, besides a structured foundation course in IIT-JEE and NEET, from the class 6th onwards.
Oakland teachers are benevolent in imparting a blended and activity based learning of different subjects that provokes the thinking abilities of the students. As admissions to higher education is a complex process due to a heightened competition and parental aspirations, our teachers ensure a hands-on-approach to the critical subjects through activity clubs, which are unique in our school at Narasaraopet.
Once the students reach the high school level in their education, our teachers would be the mentors to students individually for a meticulous career planning. As each student is unique, mentoring teacher would do a SWOT analysis and give suitably advice on the career options, once the student is in 10th class.
Thus, Oakland school would be an invaluable stake-holder for students in enriching the precious early years of their education.
Syllabus
The school is affiliated to government of Andhra Pradesh and adopts the state syllabus. The medium of instruction is English. However, as the academics are more aspiring with a competitive urge, from 6th class onwards, the school trains the students in subject’s viz. English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and social science and integrates the topics of CBSE and ICSE curriculum to its syllabus. Unlike the state syllabus with a limitation to the concepts, the educational methodology of the topics drawn from CBSE and ICSE is more comprehensive.
The planned orientation of an integrated curriculum would be benevolent to the students to remain conceptually strong. Further, the integration of the curriculum enable the students to learn in an analytical manner and brace with confidence various Olympiads, NTSE or take a foundation course in IIT JEE and NEET.
Globally, the learning methodology is rapidly changing. Gone are the days of a mundane learning. As education is becoming more broad-based creating several career options, sensitizing the students to a rigorous curriculum from the middle school level, would allow the student to remain confident and excel in various assessment tests for admission to higher education courses.
Experienced Teachers
Oakland school teachers are trained and experienced in grooming the students by focusing predominantly on moral values, a spirit of competition, humane education, toning mark of self-confidence.
While the pre-primary and primary education teachers are trained an experienced in the Montessori Method of teaching, teachers of classes 6th to 10th are all qualified and experienced in training the students not only to appear for various school-level subject-oriented competitive examinations viz. Olympiads and NTSE but also to excel in their regular studies.
As the entry to IITs and medical colleges is intensely competitive, we have recruited the qualified teachers who are experienced in training the students in foundation classes for IIT-JEE and NEET in reputed institutions at Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in the past. These teachers train the students from 6th class onwards in a structured foundation course for IIT-JEE and NEET.
Activity-Based Learning
Activity-Based Learning (ABL) is a methodology of grouping children of different ages in one class and allows them to learn at their own pace through teacher-facilitated exercises. The objective is that the learning should be based on doing some hands-on experiments and activities which enable the children to be active learners rather than passive recipients of the information. It is a proven study that if students are provided with an opportunity to explore their own and provided an optimum learning environment, then the learning becomes joyful and long-lasting.
Coaching for Olympiads and NTSE
Olympiad Examinations and National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) help us to identify a child's capability and real potential that may help to remain competitive in present days’ competitive environment. These examinations motivate students to endeavour for a better and deeper understanding of scientific facts to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills. Olympiads are school level competitive examinations conducted by various independent organizations and NTSE is conducted by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) to provide scholarships to meritoriously deserving students, till the time they complete their Ph.D.
Yoga and Meditation for Stress-free Learning
Yoga is a mind-body practice that combines physical poses, controlled breathing, and relaxation. It helps us relieve stress, lower blood pressure and heart rate. It also increases body awareness, reduces muscle tension, strain, sharpens attention and concentration, calms and centres the nervous system. On the contrary, Meditation is a simple technique that, if practised for 10 minutes a day, can help get a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. Meditation eliminates the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be jamming the mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being. Our yoga teachers teach the students to practise yoga and meditation in their daily life to cultivate a warm and positive feeling towards school and learning.
Computer Lab
In view of the growing tendency towards learning integrated into computers, we have set up a good computer laboratory managed by qualified teachers. Our computers are equipped with high-speed broadband connectivity, state of the art multimedia, wide monitors that are easier to see, dedicated LAN with the latest version of Windows for teaching and learning, air-conditioned atmosphere providing comfort to the students.
IIT JEE and NEET Foundation from 6th class
The objective of a foundation courses - IIT-JEE and NEET - is to teach students the basic concepts well, efficient time management habits, following a disciplined schedule, and improving thinking skills. Our foundation course is designed to develop an aptitude for mathematics and develop a scientific temper. The foundation course enables the students to take an early lead, study regularly for high-level competitive exams, avoid stress and time pressure in subsequent years.
English lab for soft skills
English language lab is designed to provide learners a strong platform for practical training in the language and accent. The laboratory facilitates the pronunciation of the language; builds confidence for interactions and presentations in English provides a platform to enhance English language skills, and soft skills. The devices installed in the laboratory stimulate the learner to acquire the language quickly and easily. Our English language teachers are qualified and trained at English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU). They not only teach the language subjects and also train the students to excel in soft skills.
Student Mentoring
A teacher would be a good mentor or an advisor or a role model in pursuit of students’ career paths. It is a role of empathy towards students in setting goals in their life, explore career opportunities, the art of developing contacts, and identify resources. At Oakland, mentoring is perceived as the institute’s obligation to enhance student’s chances for success not because of the knowledge and skills they learn from the mentor but also to gain professional socialization and personal support.
Playground
We provide a playground for popular sports. We perceive that playing in a ground helps children learn to cooperate as a team. It teaches them to develop a sense of needed balance and assess the risk-taking. The play breaks help children develop physical strength and overall growth, as school playgrounds play an important role in their daily life for fulfilling their interests, development and learning needs.
AC Campus
As Narasaraopet town is surrounded by hills and red rock soil with an average annual temperature of 28.6 °C, for a conducive and comfortable learning environment, we provide fully air-conditioned classrooms, to ensure students to remain unperturbed by the changing weather conditions.
Blended learning
Blended Learning is a methodology that leverages technology to provide a more personalized approach to learning. Apart from the classroom, online teaching, the teacher can give individualized assignments, additional reading resources, and activities that students could perform at home. The method would enhance the learning abilities of the students and gain an in-depth understanding of the subjects.
The Digital Classrooms
The digital classroom aptly denotes the “technology-enabled” classroom wherein the student learning is supported through the strategic use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). It is a virtualization of classrooms where virtual and immersive tools are part of the learning structure and the methods associated with learning. Adapting digital classrooms as a teaching aid from Pre-KG to 10th class would enhance the student learning and retention of the knowledge.
Activity Clubs
The clubs are activity-centres managed by the students and teachers together. As the early years of the child’s learning is very crucial, we integrate the studies with the clubs. This would enable the students to gain practical experience in the course of their education. The club is seen as an opportunity to form good habits and display their hidden potential. The Club activities complement academics and give practical training to students, which are needed in day to day life. We contemplate starting art, drama, science, mathematics, literature, history, language, hobby and charity.
Library
The school provides a library with a good collection of books giving a pleasurable reading from the tiny-tots to high school students.
Integrated syllabus (CBSE, ICSE & State board)
The school is affiliated to the government of Andhra Pradesh adopting the state syllabus and the medium of instruction is English.
